Idea exploration and description
I have an Idea to go through my Twitter feed because that's where I generally share my trip photos. Getting a 'sense of place' to me, is going somewhere you haven't been before and keeping a detailed recall of it. it lives strongly in your mind.
I was drawn to the term "memory." Places that piqued my interest and piqued my curiosity, places where I had visited to build memories and learn new things about culture, behavior, food, and living styles, among other things.
a 'sense of place' to be kept and cherish.
there are few pictures that I feel suit for my project but I have chosen down below; -
Image above was taken at Australia, 'Australia White Parrot Rainforest Cockatoo Tree'. Being in a new place and experiencing a fresh atmosphere allows me to think more freely. It's like getting a new chance to learn new things in a new place, sensing new things around you, and it holds such sentimental importance for me that I couldn't bear the notion of letting it go.
Sketch.
Going through my first physical sketch, I would say the I was struggling to find idea and seriously on a hard stuck mode on what to project for this task. I came up with some unique trees and a figure in the middle but it still feels empty and meaningless to me as I take a deep look on my sketch. I actually tried to digitalized it but it doesn't feel good.
feedback
I sent my sketch to Mr Charles, and the reaction I received from him was quite positive, which made me very happy. There are few things that Mr Charles asked me to figure out such as: -
- Decide well on the use of space and borders
- Depending on your concept, is this enclosed or open?
So I came up with a new sketch but I started with digital sketch. during this time, I was trying to duplicate same as my image. While I was doing the outline, I figured, why not I just do simple organic or geometrical shape as an abstract of the picture I have chosen.
- I used the same color palate as the picture as I'm trying to project almost similar to my picture.-
- I added some texture and create other elements such as clouds and sun. This helps to elevate more that this image was taken on top of a hill-
- Lastly, I added the cockatoo bird as its a touch of the memory of this place.-
Final outcome in PDF and short rationale
Maizatul Amirah: Memories Of The Cockatoo
rationale:
I made little changes to my artwork along the process, such as adding the cockatoo bird to make it more memorable, like I had visualized. Furthermore, the overall impression of asymmetrical balance and harmony in my design that I gained from the lecture videos, which is based on gestalt theory, was implemented in my design. I remembered there was a flock of cockatoos around me and when I
tried to feed them there was only on cockatoo bird that stick around and being friendly
towards me. It was an amazing experience to feed a wild and unique bird.
It was the best moments when I was there.

Reflection on the project
Creating an artwork is a challenging endeavor since it necessitates a lot of ideas and inspiration, as well as a lot of time. I may struggle in the beginning trying to find inspirations and Idea but with the knowledge I've gained from my lecturer, it has helped me a lot to come this far in this module. After a few days of struggle, all I had to do to develop my artwork was to trust my instincts and thoughts. I feel that all of the encouragement I received from my peers gave me the strength to persevere. To summaries my experience with this project, I had a lot of fun designing it, however there are a few things I need to improve on. Overall, I feel that the design I produced is valuable and reflects my traits based on how I portray it.
